The Regal Mini Spyder is the latest version of our lightweight Mini Sulky model previously known as the Roadster. The raised seat position gives greater riding comfort, and the Spyder still takes only a few seconds to break down and pack into your car.

The central chassis, highlighted above in green, is unique to the
Mini Spyder and made of rust-proof, durable stainless steel
The Mini Spyder is designed for dog carting on paved surfaces, as unlike our other models it does not feature independent suspension. It comes with light, 26" steel-spoked wheels and white-wall tyres, and at only 12kg (27lbs), is suitable for carting with medium-size dogs (22–32kg, or 50–70lbs).
The Mini Spyder is the ideal choice for a novice carter who wants
the best equipment at the best price! It currently retails for $1051
in Australia (inc GST), or around $640 US - write

This is the first Regal Mini Spyder constructed,
photographed in R.J. Walsh & Son's factory in Padstow.

The name 'spider' was originally applied to "a lightly-built carriage...with a high body and disproportionately large and slender wheels" (Oxford English Dictionary, 2nd Edition), and in Australia and South Africa was later applied to harness racing sulkies, R.J. Walsh & Son's original product line.
In the world of race cars, the spindly wire-framed convertible roof on the Porsche 550 led to it being named the 'Spyder'. Thanks to the model's considerable success on the racetrack, the name 'spyder' or 'spider' became synonymous with speed and light weight, and was subsequently applied to race cars and roadsters made by Ferrari, Fiat, Maserati and Alpha Romeo.
It is these associations with the history of carriage-making, speed, and light, hi-tech engineering that led Jim Walsh to name this Mini Sulky the 'Spyder'.
